Conclusions of the Berlin Tourism Fair (ITB).

The year 2017 was marked by a record 7% increase in the number of tourists in the world, and by unprecedented movements against mass tourism, which disfigures or expels the local populations from the places where they live.
Venice bans the cruise boats, Barcelona is against local accommodation and Dubrovnik has limited entry of tourists into the medieval city. Faced with so-called "mass tourism", industry professionals are looking for urgent solutions.
The sector considers  different ways to ensure that tourism will not self-destruct.
  • The most obvious - and most positive for local economies - is to better share the flow of visitors.
  • Another solution is to raise prices to dissuade.
  • Technology also allows better regulation of flows. In Amsterdam, a website informs visitors the waiting time in the queues. Soon, there should be an application to alert the places to avoid.
